Canada’s first-ever World Cup match as a host nation ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw. Bosnia and Herzegovina took the lead, but Canada fought back to level things in front of a passionate Toronto crowd.
Trivia: Former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau was spotted at SoFi Stadium supporting his girlfriend Katy Perry (who performed in the USMNT opening ceremony) rather than attending Canada’s match in Toronto.

The tournament opened on Thursday, June 11. Mexico kicked off their campaign with a win in Guadalajara, while South Korea defeated the Czech Republic in a late-night thriller. Mexico shirts sold out across the Bay Area β a sign of massive home support.
