## π Messi Makes History β 18 World Cup Goals
**Argentina 2-0 Austria**
Lionel Messi, just days before his 39th birthday, did the unthinkable again. After missing an early penalty, he responded with a clinical low strike for his 17th World Cup goal to surpass Miroslav Klose’s all-time record, then added an 18th in stoppage time β squeezing the ball through two defenders from a tight angle.
It was vintage Messi. He has now scored all five of Argentina’s goals at this tournament and is two clear at the top of the Golden Boot race. The defending champions are already through to the last 32 with a game to spare.

## π«π· Mbappe Double After Two-Hour Delay
**France 3-0 Iraq**
Kylian Mbappe scored twice (14′, 50′) to take his World Cup tally to 16 goals in 16 games β joint-second all-time alongside Klose. His second was a gift after Iraq’s defense self-destructed on a short goal kick.
The match in Philadelphia was delayed over two hours at halftime due to lightning strikes in the area. Fans were also told not to travel to the stadium earlier because of severe weather. Ousmane Dembele added a third (his first ever at a major tournament for France) to seal the win.
France top Group I with six points; Iraq are bottom with zero.

## π³π΄ Haaland Dominates Again β Norway Through
**Norway 3-2 Senegal**
Erling Haaland scored twice (48′, 65′) as Norway cruised to a second straight win and booked their place in the last 32. The Manchester City striker now has four goals in two World Cup games β already more than any other Norwegian in World Cup history.
Martin Odegaard set up Haaland’s first with a brilliant through ball, and the big striker’s second was a calm side-foot volley that went in off the bar. Marcus Pederson opened the scoring for Norway late in the first half.
Ismaila Sarr scored twice for Senegal (the second deep in injury time) but couldn’t find an equalizer with the final header of the game. Senegal must beat Iraq in their final group match to have any chance.

## πͺπ¬ Egypt’s First Ever World Cup Win
**Egypt 3-1 New Zealand**
Mohamed Salah scored one and assisted another as Egypt came from behind to secure their first World Cup victory in their fourth attempt (first appearance was in 1934!).
New Zealand took an early lead through Finn Surman’s 15th-minute header, but Egypt responded with three goals in 24 second-half minutes β Mostafa Zico equalized, Salah put them ahead, and Trezeguet sealed it with a header from a Salah corner.
Egypt now sit top of Group G and can win the group by beating Iran on Saturday.

## π¨π» Cape Verde & πΊπΎ Uruguay Share the Points
**Uruguay 2-2 Cape Verde**
Cape Verde’s fairytale debut continues. After a shock 0-0 draw with Spain, they took the lead against two-time champions Uruguay through Kevin Pina’s free-kick. Uruguay fought back to go 2-1 up before a defensive lapse allowed Helio Varela to equalize in the second half.
Federico Valverde had a goal ruled out for offside, but Cape Verde held on for a famous draw. Both teams have two points and remain in the hunt for the last 32.
